Robert Thompson Designs were recommended to me by a couple of builders that I approached about tendering for the conversion of my loft in 2012. Robert (Bob) was a great choice and we are delighted to have worked with him on our project. Bob’s design for our house was sympathetic to the age and style of our house but also maximised the space and design whilst maintaining the downstairs space, all space in the property was maximised in an attractive fashion in Bob’s design! Throughout the planning and build process Bob was very supportive and always went out his way to assist me with the project. Bob helped me resolve any build issues and was always willing and quick to help me with any queries and drawing amendments. I have been using Robert Thompson Designs, for architectural work over the past 20yrs when undertaking extensions or home improvements. Each of the projects has related to property I own or live in with my family. Bob is happy to visit you on site and advise what might be possible with regard to both aesthetics and building regulations. He then quickly produces draft drawings for your consideration before the final submission to the local authority. Bob is good to work with if you are not in the building trade yourself because he talks common sense and has a good sense of humour. Bob was recommended to me by a local builder and I would, and have, recommended him to others – not least because I can afford him!

Bob helped us plan our basement conversion, the results of which we are very pleased with and which can be seen on his website. Rather than impose his ideas, Bob worked with us to achieve the best layout in the available space for our needs. He was patient and easy to deal with. When we changed our minds he would say that it is easier to change drawings than to change the finished work. Bob also helped us, in an advocacy role, in negotiations with the builder, for which we were very appreciative. All in all, we would have no hesitation in recommending Bob – in fact, we have already done so, with our neighbours employing him for their rear extension.
